Enterprise 2.0
Corporations have been evolving their IT infrastructure steadily and are increasingly embracing new technologies that embody some of the new concepts being seen in the so-called Web 2.0 landscape but with enterprise priorities and requirements. There are actually several important sub-themes to Enterprise 2.0 that are part of our coverage. These include:
- Service Oriented Archiecture (SOA): The ability to have software, applications and data work together is predicated on the components being implemented using SOA methods.
- Business Process & Knowledge Management: High value new applications for businesses are those that improve their execution ability. Enterprises are increasingly focused on applications and infrastructure that directly improve their business processes and enhance their business intelligence.
- Business Intelligence: Data volumes and sources are exploding along with the demand to track, analyze, discover and predict business trends in near-real-time.
- Open Source Software: Companies have experienced a lower TCO for some commodity software products thanks to Open Source. The industry is still evolving and coming to understand where the long-term future for open source sofware is in the enterprise.
- Software as a Service: Although associated with the SMB market, large enterprises are moving to SaaS due to benefits like faster time to implementation and lower TCO. Improved customization ability and multi-tenant archiectures are make the choice of SaaS easier for even the biggest companies.
